For your personal records, make an
inventory list of each of the items you will be
storing and include the dollar replacement value
(a picture, too, if you can). If items are in boxes,
mark the contents on each box and count the boxes. |
 |
Make sure you have sufficient supplies
for packing (tape, marker, boxes, ropes, pallets,
bubble wrap, etc.). |
 |
Look at the storage unit
before you move and decide where you are going to
put your property-keep in mind if you are going
to access some things more frequently, they should
go in front of those things you won't need to get
to so readily. |
 |
Make sure heavier things are on the
bottom with lighter items on top to avoid damaging
fragile items. |
 |
Make sure any appliances are clean
and dry before you store them |
 |
Cover furniture items with blankets
or other protective material |
 |
If you have freestanding shelves,
use them to help organize and maximize your space |
 |
You may not store any toxins, flammable
or perishable items. |
 |
Don't use plastic to cover items as
it retains water. |
 |
Don't assume your existing insurance
will cover items in storage. Call and find out! |
